Changelog
Three kinds of change, kept apart: what the Unicode standard did, what we built, and what we wrote. An entry appears when something actually changed — rebuilding or redeploying the site does not create one.
Unicode 17.0.0 and CLDR 48.2.0
Unicode data update- Dataset regenerated from Unicode 17.0.0: 3953 entries, 2163 of them base entries.
- 163 emoji added in Emoji 17.0 are now included and marked as new.
- Korean CLDR names added, covering 100% of entries. Used for search and accessible labels.
- Every source file is now checksummed on download and recorded in the data manifest.
Workspace, Inspector and a rebuilt data layer
SymbolTap product update- Emoji Workspace: build a line of emoji and text, reorder it, undo, save and share.
- Emoji and Unicode Inspectors: break any character into its code points, encodings and sequence structure.
- Flag Emoji Finder and Skin Tone Selector, both driven directly by the published Unicode sequences.
- Emoji Accessibility Checker for reviewing how a message reads aloud.
- Category pages now paginate instead of rendering thousands of buttons into one document.
- Skin tone and variant sequences no longer generate near-duplicate detail pages; they appear as variants on the base emoji.
Glossary and learning material
Editorial content update- A 22-term Unicode glossary, with full pages for the eight concepts that warrant one.
- A concept-led Learn section, each explanation linked to a live example in the Inspector.
- A developer data page documenting the shipped index, its fields, licence and provenance.
